Dispel the Myth
If you're like most of us, and I'm guessing that you are, you have spent a great deal of time lost in despair and the over-powering "not-knowing" what to do. You have likely convinced yourself that no one else would understand where you're coming from. We have been where you are (and some are still there). We hear you and are here for you.

I was surprised to find out just how many of us were out there living together alone when I first began my step-parent journey several years ago. I soon learned that my hubby was not the person I should vent to, as talking about my feelings usually ended up in arguments because he didn't have the answers either. Honestly, I think he was hoping that the situation would just go away, and wanted to sweep it under a carpet. I wasn't prone to that sort of thing, and couldn't just let it go.

That was about the time that I found my first Step Parent's group. I was elated. To be able to say what I thought and felt, and be able to read what others were going through. It sure helped me to put things into perspective. No matter how bad I thought my own problems were, there was always someone out there who's troubles were far worse. My "psycho" BM didn't seem quite so psycho anymore, and I found myself feeling better because I could vent and share without feeling like the roof was going to cave in on me. I hate to think of where I'd have ended up if I hadn't found them when I did. They were truly my salvation. I am forever thankful.
